AN EPIC RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER
|
Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer?
We all have our own story to tell about our experiences with cancer, whether it be our family, friends, workmates, or ourselves. I do not want to sound like an authority on this, as I am not.
To be honest, I never actually gave it that much thought until about a year ago, when a close friend of the family became very sick with throat cancer. Although her quality of life deteriorated quickly, she managed to hang on to be at the wedding of her only daughter not long ago. She passed away peacefully in June.
The Ride to Conquer Cancer is my opportunity to raise as much money as possible to make a real contribution to help fight this terrible disease.
I have this mental picture of the researchers and doctors at the Peter Mac Cancer Centre working to give each cancer sufferer the best chance to get better, and ultimately prevent the disease in future. It is inspirational to see all the riders registered for this event (over 2000 I have heard) combining to help fund this cause.
In October I will be donning lycra (!!) and riding 200km over two whole days. I have dusted off the bike, pumped up the tires (which needed replacing because they had been flat for so long) and started to do some training. This will be as much a challenge of working out how I can sit on a bike seat for 4-5 hours each day as conditioning my legs! This of course is completely insignificant compared to the difficulties faced by cancer sufferers on a daily basis.
This is a terrible disease we can all relate to in one form or another, so please donate as little or as much as you can so we can all help make as much of a difference as possible.
Thank you in advance for your help.
