My name is Rik to some and 'Crazy' to others. I am writing this page to let you know of a challenge I have taken on. Although my challenge is big, it is nothing compared to the challenge facing many people in our community every year. The wife of one of my mates was last year diagnosed with cancer. Luckily she is a survivor! Watching the fight that she and her family went through was tough. Another dear friend, a very fit and healthy 30 year old personal trainer, lost his fight last year. It's often not until someone close to you has that sort of life battle that you become aware of just how many people around you have been directly affected by cancer.

To show my support for my friends and many others in the community, I have decided to take part in The Ride to Conquer Cancer which is a 200km cycling journey throughout Victoria's scenic Yarra Valley on the last weekend in October 2012. Our team is called "Kickin Cancer". Each rider is required to raise at least $2,500.00 to participate in the ride. All money raised in The Ride to Conquer Caner will go directly to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the only public hospital in Australia solely dedicated to the treatment of cancer patients and the very necessary research to find a cure. So I hope all you wonderful people out there can dig deep and donate what you can to help those wonderful doctors and scientists at Peter Mac beat this disease. Any donation will be very much appreciated.
