All of us, in some way, have a connection with cancer. We either know people who have had it or had it diagnosed ourselves.

1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85. Amazingly about one in three cases can be prevented through an understanding of factors such as smoking, sun exposure, alcohol consumption and poor diet and lack of exercise.

The Ride to Conquer Cancer is a two day cycling journey throughout Victoria's scenic countryside that I'm embarking on as part of the Medibank team to fight cancer. All of the proceeds of the Melbourne event will go to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, a world leader in cancer treatment, research and education and one that brings true meaning to the expression, "For better health".

It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with the support of the fantastic team at Medibank and your generosity I am confident we will achieve our target and make a real impact in the fight to conquer cancer.
