Cancer.  The statistics do not lie: 1 in 2 people will be affected by a type of cancer in their life time. This disease does not discriminate and will never consider your skin colour, age or even your dreams for the future.

"It is like meeting the man of your dreams and then meeting his beautiful wife.. "

For me, it was like meeting the man of my dreams and then meeting his terrible fate.

Ads was diagnosed with Cancer in 2006, when I met him he had already been living with this disease for 3 years. After regular chemo therapy, costing a whopping $7000 a bag, we had two choices. One was to continue chemo therapy every time the cancer would come back - not a cure but life saving for the moment, or choice number two, a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT). The latter being a rough miracle that doctors have long searched for. The innovative BMT exchanges the old immune system for a new one by introducing donated stem cells, allowing his own body to fight the cancer if it were to reoccur. Bone Marrow Transplants have saved many lives and will continue to do so in the future. 

Everyday people are diagnosed with different types of cancer, all needing a miracle. If not for previous donations & necessary research there would not have been a miracle for Ads, saving both our lives at the same time. 

The time, money and effort that was put into supporting and consequently curing Ads, has cost a fortune and has been a blessing, made possible by the generosity of others. 

The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, is a 200km cycling journey throughout Victoria's scenic countryside that I am embarking on to fight cancer. It will be a challenge in a number of ways, but with my brand new bike and a reason to ride it will be easy to achieve.
