Please Support My Ride to Conquer Cancer?
Welcome to my Personal Page! The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, is a cycling journey throughout Victoria's scenic countryside that I'm embarking on.
Almost 2 years ago my father began his battle against cancer. He was diagnosed with a rare tumor in his kidney known as an Angiosarcoma. After various chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments dad lost his battle early Tuesday morning on the 13th September 2011.
My dad's enthusiasm and love of life, his family and work shone out so brightly to everyone that had the pleasure to have known him.
His tenacity to fight this disease till his final breath was nothing less than admirable.
His passing had a deep impact on our tight-knit community where our family run a local business in Kew. He was a much loved character with a constant smile on his face albeit rain, hail or shine were evident in the outpouring of grief, flowers, cards and tears from people whom had the great pleasure of knowing him.
Dad was such a selfless creature, he would forego painkillers and ordering food whilst in hospital because he thought if he could save the public hospital some money it would benefit others that were less fortunate than himself.
I say this with a heavy heart but will be forever grateful that his disease cemented a bond between us that can never be broken or replaced.
Sneaking in a McDonalds soft serve cone and various little detours after every treatment before mum found out initiated a secret nod that only we knew about.
I dedicated my Kokoda Trek in April 2011 to him because my dad epitomized everything our fallen heroes encompassed: Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice. You are my hero!
I am so proud that you are my dad and I'm your little girl.
I will miss you with each passing day.
The ache in my heart will never dull, it is my constant reminder that you live on in my heart.
You are forever part of me as I am of you.
Let's not say goodbye for our paths will cross again one day. I will see you, hold you in my arms and you will greet me with that cheeky nod. But in the meantime i bid you Sweet dreams Dad.
I hope on this journey on the Ride To Conquer Cancer I will share my dad's story and draw strength from fellow riders to heal.
As his disease started to advance his message to myself was that I needn't think of him everyday but from time to time remember him as a good person and a father and not to forget him!!
By participating in this ride I am hoping to raise $25,000 to have my dad's name permanently etched on the honour board at the Peter McCallum Cancer Centre.
Please contribute to this history-making event with a donation. Funds raised in The Ride to Conquer Cancer will support Peter Mac, the only public hospital in Australia solely dedicated to cancer.
Thank you in advance for your help.
I will never forget you.
You were there when I took my first breath and I held you till you took your last.
I Love You Dad xo
