The Ride to Conquer Cancer® benefiting the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre

Kickin Cancer

Hi and welcome to our team page Kickin Cancer.

We are a group of people who know each other through a friend or a friend of a friend. But we all have one thing in common we all know someone who has been touched by cancer.

So we decided to team up in The Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. We will be riding 200kms over 2 days cycling journey throughout Victorias scenic countryside.

We are here because we know that cancer is too big a disease to ignore. It affects everyone, maybe you, me, our parent, kids, sibblings or friends. Sadly, maybe all of the above. But riding in this event we are doing something about it.

But the main thing is along the way we are generating awareness for critical cancer research at Peter Mac, the only public hospital in Australia solely dedicated to cancer.

MEET AND GREET A MELBOURNE FOOTBALL PLAYER

On Sunday, the 29th July Ron and Jenny hosted their Meet and Greet a Melbourne AFL Player fundraiser at their home. The afternoon kicked off at 2.30 with about 45 Melbourne supporters coming from all over, even Leongatha, to meet and chat with Demons player, Mark Jamar,James Frawley, Jack Watts, Aaron Davey and Matthew Bate.It was a wonderful afternoon where a mixed group of strangers with two things in common, a love of the Melbourne Football Club and a desire to raise money for the Peter Mac Foundation, came together and ate, drank and shared a laugh. These Melbourne players were an absolute credit to the Club as they mixed with each and every one of their supporters, taking interest in each person they spoke to and giving these supporters a real opportunity to share some time with them. A big thank you to these boys who gave up their time so enthusiastically to raise money for Peter Mac and made the day so special for their supporters - they truly are champions. The day was very successful with almost $2500 raised and a lot of happy Demon fans proud of their players.

JULIES SHOPPING TRIP

Julie did a great job of fundraising well over $1000 on her shopping tour. 36 of shopped until we dropped last Saturday. The money raised will now make sure Glen has raised his goal for Conquer Cancer. We had lots of fun and came away with some bargains. So a big thank to all of you that came and made it a fun day.

THE MUFFIN LADY

Karen gets up early every Sunday morning before our ride starts at 8.00 am and makes the team the most yummy savoury bacon muffins and even makes vegetarian ones as well. Its something to look forward to when we have finished our ride. Not sure what time she is getting up but I know it must be pretty early. So thank you Karen we all love your muffins.

FOOTY NIGHT : ANOTHER FANTASTIC FUNDRAISING NIGHT

A fantastic Saturday night at Etihad to watch Carlton beat the Lions. Eighteen took a bus in and only 14 returned home! Just shows what a good night was had. We raffled off a Royal Ascott racebook signed by Peter Moody and Luke Nolan and also raffled 4 x Medallion Club tickets for next year which proved extremely successful.

Overall we raised just over $2000.

Many thanks to Rick Crook for his efforts getting the guys there, Scruff for selling tickets and most of all to Paul Brown for his generous donation.
